How present are you really? Real life tips on gaining clarity and direction.

How can we be more present in our most important relationships?

This month some of the biggest discussions I’ve had are about being fully and deeply present. With ourselves and our loved ones. Being present means fully engaging your mind, body and attention in the current moment. What are the common challenges to being present?

  1. Dwelling on the past. Overthinking an issue, wishing life was different. Worrying about something you said or could have said.
  2. Worrying about the future. Being so caught up in what might happen, perhaps catastrophizing, that life in the moment passes us by.
  3. Life can be so distracting and full on! Multiple, often conflicting priorities can overwhelm us. Sometimes to a chronic level.

It’s surprisingly common to feel like we’re always in a rush, and never quite get everything done. Or that we’re permanently overwhelmed. This can stop us from feeling really satisfied, content, even happy at the end of each day. So what can we do to help us find that headspace, and feel more connected and grounded in the moment?

  1. Do less to achieve more. Sounds counterintuitive but if you haven’t tried it don’t knock it!
  2. Schedule time in your calendar to BE by yourself. To pause. To breathe. To allow the crazy snow globe that can be our daily lives to settle. So that we can find clarity, and then direction.
  3. Lean into or notice (and perhaps make notes to yourself on) what feels expansive, versus restrictive or draining to your energy.

If slowing down feels impossible, but you kind of know you need to be living differently, let’s talk. Sometimes there’s great value in a new perspective, some different strategies and a ton of encouragement and support to help you!
